A complex human adventure, a collective drama that forces individuals to make decisive choices: return to Spain, re-emigrate to Latin America, stay in France, engage in the Resistance to "liberate France in order to liberate Spain". But in April 1938, there will be 80 years in 2018, at the beginning of the Spanish war, hundreds of refugees fleeing through the King's Bridge, Venasque or the Gate.They join Luchon. This terrible exodus will be exposed to us in an illustrated conference of unpublished documents on this period in Luchon. THE BRANDON, A PYRENEAN TRADITION Lecture by Mr. Jep de Montoya. Jep de Montoya is the Director of the Culture Department of the General Council of Val d'Aran. It is the world specialist of the fires of Saint John and President of the Aran Institute, the Aranese Academy of the Occitan language, the Association of prefiguration of the regulation of the Occitan dialect agency (APORLÒC ) since January 2009. He is also a member of the Occitana Linguistic Group and several institutions of Aran and the Académie Julien Sacaze in Bagnères-de-Luchon. His career as a writer since 1976 is remarkable in the light of his many literary awards. He writes in many magazines in Occitan language and publishes a Catalan Vocabulary with Miquèu Segalàs in 2010. In 2012, he published with photographer Francesc Tur: "Aran, a Country". In December 2015, UNESCO inscribed World Heritage "Summer Solstice Fire Festival in the Pyrenees".The "Brandon of St. John" is one of those living traditions. The Val d'Aran, Andorra, Aragon and the city of Bagnères-de-Luchon, recalling the link between these trans-Pyrenean valleys, worked together for this recognition.
